Operation Market Garden Commemorations, Arnhem

Operation market Garden in 1944 was one of the largest allied forces operations of the second world war which saw ground and airborne forces attempt to capture several bridges including the road bridge in Arnhem, a tragic story famously told in the Film "A Bridge Too Far".  We would encourage anyone to learn more about the operation which was surely one of the most heroic and unfortunately tragic mission of WW2.

We were delighted to be asked to form part of the massed pipes and drums for the first time in 2016, we returned in 2017 and have pencilled in returns for both 2018 and 2019, when the event will mark the 75th anniversary of Operation Market garden and the Battle of Arnhem.

Over the commemoration weekend the massed pipes and drums can be seen performing all over Arnhem, with particular focus on the John Frost Bridge ceremony on the Friday evening.  We are hosted by the brilliant volunteers of the RBL Netherlands and the Vitesse Arnhem supporters club.

Below are pictures from the 2016 trip and where you can see us once again we join up with good friends from The Seaforce Highlanders Leicester Pipes and Drums and the RBL Netherlands Pipe Band; and for the first time with The Kernow Pipes and Drums (Cornwall) along with many others from both Holland and the UK.  buttons on the left have links to other years :)
